San Sebastian, located in the northern region of Spain in Basque Country. I didn’t really have much expectations of San Sebastian, since this was a spur of the moment trip. When we arrived I was blown away. San Sebastian is beyond gorgeous. The fact that San Sebastian, is only  20 minutes from the border of France comes out int he architecture. It reminded me of being in  Paris.

We headed to San Sebastian by, Blabla Car. If you haven’t used it yet, try it out! We weren’t even planning on going to San Sebastian that day. We had a trip planned to Geneva, Switzerland but long story short couldn’t go. So on the day of we booked our trip to San Sebastian via Blabla Car. The drive is four hours long from Madrid and cost 35€ per person.

I throughly enjoyed my experience with blabla car. It was very easy and seemed reliable. Until we had to find our trip back to Madrid. We booked three different cars, and none answered. Which is fine except blabla takes the money out of your account and doesn’t return it until 3-5 days later. I think this is a major downfall on their side. Nevertheless we booked our trip back to Madrid and made it in time for work on Monday.

Day one

We headed directly to Hondarriba, which is a village about 30 minutes away from San Sebastian but definitely worth the drive. The village is fairytale like, with the most amazing ‘pintxos’ I have eaten in Spain. ‘Pintxos’ are tapas of the north, small little snacks to nibble on at the bar. The thing to do in Hondarriba is to hop around from bar to bar trying different ‘pintxos’ accompanied with a ‘zorito’ of beer. ‘Zoritos’ are small amounts of beer, exactly the perfect size to go along with your ‘pintxos’.

There isn’t much nightlife in Hondarriba. You can bar hop around, but you will end up at Ina’s Bar in the end since it is the last bar open in the village.

Day Two

We headed to San Sebastian. Since our trip was last minute we didn’t have many choices of places to stay. Although, we knew we wanted to stay in Old Town. We found a place right in the center called. Artea Narrika it is in the perfect location, we payed 100€ per night.

We arrived around 5pm, so we walked around old town and took in all the beautiful buildings and ambiance San Sebastian had to offer. We ended up at El Museo de Whiskey, yes a whiskey museum. How could I not go? We spent most of our night here sampling different whiskeys and talking, around 11pm a piano man came and played some great live music at the bar downstairs. It turned out to be a great Saturday night.

Day three: For breakfast we went to FooDoo cafe. DONT EAT HERE. THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.  We ordered the chicken with jasmine rice and the spicy chicken wrap, both horrible. Since our food was so horrendous and we had such a tough weekend with missing our flight. We decided to spoil ourselves a little with a 10€ bottle of Cava. So if your in the mood for some cava, do go here.

After breakfast we explored San sabastian some more, and walked along the beach. We had planned to leave by 3:30 but our Blah Blah car bailed and so did the next two we tried to book. So we didn’t end up leaving San Sebastian until 8. With a lot of time to kill we bough a bottle of cava and sat by the pier talking and relaxing.

For sunset we went to the boat club, which has the perfect view of the sunset over the water.

Next we headed to dinner, at  Restaurante Nagusia Lau. EVERY SINGLE THING WAS AMAZING. We ordered ‘Gambas a la plancha’ grilled shrimp in garlic sauce, Calamari and entreat with reoefort cheese.

Sadly our weekend ended here. Until next time San Sebastian.
